I sent an email to Disney World today, asking what their policy is re: "gate rallies." I've seen news reports of protests being held there, but I wanna be certain we won't get escorted off the property by security. Roll Eyes

As far as an initial meetup locale, I was thinking either....

Orlando Premium Outlets
8200 Vineland Ave, Orlando, FL 32821 (on the easement between Vineland and the heavily-traveled I-4)

or

Shadow Bay Park
5100 Turkey Lake Rd, Orlando, FL

or

Turkey Lake Park
3401 S Hiawassee Rd, Orlando, FL

Am leaning more toward the mall since it's only a mile from Disney, whereas the other locations are about 7-8 miles.

Next step: Permits!

UPDATE EDIT!

Still waiting on contact from Disney. Called, but they weren't helpful. They advised me against a rally, but I've seen other protests being held at the gates, so who knows. Sent another email.

Permits: if there's less than 100 people, we don't need one. I think I'll put in for one anyway just to be safe.

UPDATE EDIT 2!

In addition to the permit, Orlando requires liability insurance, which usually runs about $100-200. Since I have no idea if we'll have more than 100 people, what we might do is have multiple venues set up. If the first locale gets more than 80 people, we split the group, half moving to another area. The purpose of a permit is to prevent a large number of people from assembling in one area and potentially holding the county liable for damage. Small groups around the area would avoid this.

Definitely get a permit, if the police/fire dept show up and do a head count and it's over 100, they'll force you to disband. Here in LA, the permit needs to be in 40 days in advance. I'm going to file for 250-500 people, just to cover my a$$. I think it's free, so why not do it.

Aaaalrighty. Apparently I live in price gouging land! Here it costs $100 for a permit. The city is going to send me the paperwork, and if the deadline/time limit is less than 40 days, I'll wait as long as possible so I have a better guestimate of how many we'll have.

I can kind of understand the permit fees to cover police costs of monitoring the rally, maybe we should go with your idea of multiple smaller rallies. Otherwise, the costs could get out of hand, and so far the Cafepress shop doesn't show any sales. I'm only going to go ahead with my permit if they are still waiving the $300 that an assembly permit costs.
